Professor Jean-François Dufour

About

Professor Jean-François Dufour is a globally recognized expert in the field of hepatology with extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases. He received his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine in Geneva and completed further training in Internal Medicine at the University Hospitals in Geneva and Bern. He then conducted research in Professor I. Arias's laboratory at Tufts University in Boston, USA, studying the role of calcium signaling in the function of bile capillaries. Following this, he completed a specialization in gastroenterology under the guidance of Professor M. Kaplan at the New England Medical Center at Tufts University.

Since 1997, Professor Dufour has led his own laboratory at the University of Bern, where he is the Clinical Director and a full Professor of Hepatology. He is a member of several international professional organizations, including the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), and the Swiss Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He is also a co-founder of the International Liver Cancer Association.

With his expertise in basic, translational, and clinical research, Professor Dufour understands the challenges of applying scientific findings in clinical practice. He has been the principal investigator in clinical trials focused on NASH (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis) and HCC (hepatocellular carcinoma) and is currently researching the link between fatty liver, physical activity, and liver cancer.

Professor Dufour has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers and has held editorial positions at prestigious journals such as the Journal of Hepatology, Hepatology, GUT, and Liver International.
